Kamran Khodakhah is the Dominick P. Purpura Department of Neuroscience Professor, as well as a professor within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the Saul R. Korey Department of Neurology. He is also the chair of the Dominick P. Purpura Department of Neuroscience and is the Florence and Irving Rubinstein Chair in Neuroscience.
Khodakhah’s laboratory is interested in examining the intrinsic properties and information processing of Purkinje cells and deep cerebellar nuclei within the cerebellum under normal and pathological conditions using techniques ranging from single-cell level analyses to studies in behaving animals. The laboratory’s ultimate goal is to understand 1) how the cerebellum generates precise timing signals and 2) how its dysfunction leads to motor impairments in diseases such as ataxia and dystonia.
