M. Albert Basson is a professor of neuroscience and epigenetics at the University of Exeter. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in biochemistry from the University of Pretoria in South Africa and his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge, U.K. He underwent post-doctoral training at the National Institute for Medical Research in London, Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, King’s College London and the University of California, San Francisco, before establishing his own laboratory at King’s College in 2006.

Research in Basson’s laboratory is focused on chromatin remodeling factors implicated in autism spectrum disorders and intellectual disabilities. His group uses a combination of mouse genetic, developmental neurobiology, transcriptomic and molecular chromatin approaches to investigate how these factors regulate brain development and function.
