Michael F. Wells is an assistant professor in the Department of Human Genetics at the University of California, Los Angeles. His lab uses high-throughput screens in human stem cell-derived neural models and cerebral organoids to investigate the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disability.
Wells earned a B.S. in biological sciences from the University of Notre Dame in 2008 and a Ph.D. in neurobiology from Duke University in 2015 under the guidance of Guoping Feng. In 2021, he completed his postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Kevin Eggan at Harvard University and the Broad Institute. His work has been funded by a F31 Predoctoral Fellowship, a K99/R00 Pathway to Independence award and a Burroughs Wellcome Fund Postdoctoral Enrichment Program award. He is Chair of the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) Trainee Advisory Committee and has previously served as an SfN Early Career Policy Ambassador.
