Félix Joubert
2023 SURFiN Fellow, University of Bordeaux
Mentor: Maria Gueidao Costa (Frick Lab)
Félix Joubert graduated with an Associate Degree of Science in June 2023 and is now preparing the last year of his Bachelor of Science at the University of Bordeaux. After high school, he completed youth training in motorcycle mechanics while working as a mechanic at Honda New Bike in Merignac. During the pandemic, he realized his real passion since his youth has been science, especially biology and neuroscience. He enrolled at the University of Bordeaux in 2021 and followed his second-year courses in English, which helped him understand publications and during his internship at INMED (Institut de Neurobiologie de la Méditerranée) in June 2023. During this traineeship, he worked on a novel device invented by his tutor: the Phenotypix, an open field laying on piezoelectrical sensors allowing us to detect ultra-fine movement in the mouse model such as grooming, spasms and even respiration and heartbeats during sleeping or immobilization phases. This internship helped him to develop new skills but even more importantly, to gain a foothold in the world of research.
