Ana Carolina Abreu completed a Bachelor of Science in biomedical sciences at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil and her master’s degree at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany, and Université de Bordeaux, France, as part of Neurasmus: European Master in Neuroscience. She is now pursuing an undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Essex Online in England. During her studies in Brazil, Ana Carolina has worked as a research assistant at the Neuroprotection and Neurorehabilitation Laboratory and at the Chronobiology and Sleep Laboratory, where she received a stipend from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). In Berlin, she completed internships in the Environmental Neuroscience Group at theMax Planck Institute for Human Development and in the Synaptic Dysfunction Lab at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases, DZNE. Her thesis was an electrophysiological and morphological investigation of somatosensory neurons in a mouse model of autism, conducted in theCortical Plasticity Lab at Neurocentre Magendie. Ana Carolina is interested in human models of health and disease and would like to explore the field of brain organoids and human neurons derived from pluripotent stem cells.
