Letter of Intent FAQ

Q: How do I get in touch with proposalCENTRAL for technical questions?
A: Email pcsupport@altum.com or call 800-875-2562.

Q: Where do I submit the LOI?
A: Register on proposalCENTRAL and click "Create New Proposal." You will find the Simons Foundation LOI in the list of funding opportunities.  Click "Apply Now" to start the application. After all sections are completed and the LOI is uploaded, you will be able to hit the "Submit" button to send the application.

Q: Do I need approval from the grants office at my institution to submit my LOI?
A: The Simons Foundation does not require institutional officer signatures to submit an LOI, but we urge you to check with your institution's policies regarding LOI submission.

Q: What file formats are accepted for the LOI?
A: .PDF is the only file format accepted.

Q: What are the font and size requirements for the LOI?
A: 12-point, legible font.

Q: Do I need to submit biosketches?
Biosketches should not be attached at the LOI stage.

Q: Where can I submit a budget?
A: At the LOI stage, the proposal type (Pilot, Individual, Award) indicates the approximate level of funding requested.

Q: If my LOI is accepted for a full proposal, will I be able to enter additional key personnel and co-PIs?
A: Yes, there will be an application section for entering key personnel on the project.

Q: I have questions about the Simons Simplex Collection.
A: Please see https://sfari.org/simons-simplex-collection for more information.

Q: I cannot find the "Submit" button. Where is it?
A: If the submission deadline has NOT passed, use the "Validate" button to check for missing requirements. If the problem persists, please contact proposalCENTRAL customer support.
If the deadline has passed, the submission period has closed and you will not be able to submit. Please contact the Foundation and we will review requests on a case-by-case basis.

Q: Are deadline times adjusted for time zones?
A: No. Please be advised that deadlines on the application are in Eastern Standard Time. We highly recommend registering early and submitting applications with ample time for corrections prior to the deadline hour. Heavy site traffic can slow page load times. Submission will be blocked after the deadline time has passed.

Q: When will applicants be informed of the LOI decision?
A: The Simons Foundation plans to notify applicants around February 17, 2010.
