Getting Started with SFARI Base
1. Sign in to SFARI ID
Direct your browser to https://ordering.base.sfari.org. Your screen will display the form shown below. If you already have a SFARI ID OpenID, move on to the Obtain a SFARI OpenID section to learn how to obtain one.
Note: Firefox browser is required for SFARI Base. Click here for the free download.

2. Obtain a SFARI OpenID
OpenID is a popular emerging standard for user authentication, which is quickly replacing conventional Usernames and Passwords. With a SFARI ID OpenID, you will be able to access all SFARI resources — including SFARI Base. To get started, follow these steps:
- Click the "Create Account" tab at the top of the page. You will be redirected to a "Sign Up" form.
- Fill out your information, and click "Create Account".
- If your screen displays a success message after clicking the link, you are now logged into SFARI ID.
A Quick Start Guide to SFARI Base
Navigating the SFARI Base web site is simply about navigating the STEPS on the left-hand side and the TABS across the top corresponding to each step.
A. Research Team Affiliation
Once you have affiliated with a research team, it will be displayed at the top of this page. If you affiliate with multiple research teams, a drop down menu will appear and you will be able to select the research team for which you wish to view projects and requests.

B. Steps for Obtaining SFARI Resources
Along the left hand side are a series of steps. These steps coincide with specific actions you will be required to take in order to obtain access to SFARI resources.

Steps can be in one of three states:
- Active - The step you are currently viewing
- Available - A step that you have permission to access
- Unavailable - A step that you do not have permission to access
C. Tabs for Completing Steps
The tabs along the top of the page update, depending on which step is your Active step. When you click a tab, the main content of the page will update. Just like steps, tabs can be unavailable to you if you have not completed all tasks required to view a specific tab.

D. Main Content
This portion of the page is dynamic, and will update depending on which Tab you have clicked within your Active Step.

E. Steps Checklist
This segment of the Main content is unique to the Home: Overview tab. This list shows which steps you currently have access to, and provides a short explanation on how to gain access to any unavailable steps.
